Food Warehouse Nears Completion
Construction is nearing completion on a renovated and expanded $2.6 million Food Service Warehouse in Cockeysville, MD for Baltimore County Public Schools.
308 NBP Slated for LEED Silver
GVA continues its 11 year relationship with Corporate Office Properties Trust (COPT). GVA is nearing completion on the design of a new five-story shell office building at 308 Sentinel Drive in National Business Park. Design work is also under way on a new 3-building complex in National Business Park North. 308 NBP is one of over a dozen LEED projects designed by GVA.

230 Schilling Circle Wins ABC Award
After recently celebrating its 50th year in practice GVA continues to see an expanding client base. Four new office projects have been designed for Merritt Properties, its newest developer client. 230 Schilling Circle recently won the Award of Excellence for best LEED certified Renovation from Associated Builders and Contractors of Baltimore. GVA has nearly completed documents for a future 7- story office building to be located in Hunt Valley.
GVA Works With New Boston at Arundel Mills
New Boston Funds, Inc and Seneca Properties, Inc. Corporation have commissioned GVA to study two sites at Arundel Mills that could yield from 225,000 - 300,000 SF of office space. The three-building complex shown would provide office space for businesses looking to relocate to the Baltimore-Washington corridor. This particular site’s proximity to Fort Meade would allow tenants to take advantage of BRAC related opportunities.

Bank Renovation in Pasadena
The Chesapeake Bank of Maryland completed its Pasadena branch renovation last year and has just completed renovation of the Arbutus branch. Both branches were in need of a new look. In each GVA designed a totally new color scheme and materials palette and worked with the Owner for replacement of all furniture and the Teller Line. New lighting was also specified and renovation of staff support areas. The results give customers a fresh modernized environment for banking.

Four Branches Completed for SECU
SECU (The State Employees Credit Union) completed branches at Owings Mills, Jumpers Hole, Parole and Padonia. GVA worked closely with the Owner to develop Documents for SECU’s prototype established look. These branches utilize an entirely automated teller system complemented by conventional work stations for customer service. The resulting branches have increased security due to the auto tellers and they require lower staffing levels than previous branches.

Flagship Bank Opens at Arundel Mills
With banking clients remaining strong GVA can boast four recent projects for The Columbia Bank including a flagship branch at Arundel Preserve. For the first time in this branch The Columbia Bank added a casual meeting space at the rear of the branch enabling staff and customers to meet in an informal setting to discuss banking needs. Where additional privacy is needed, customers can move into one of the glass walled customer service offices or the conference room.

Historic Renovation at Poe Gravesite
At the University of Maryland, Baltimore, construction work has been completed on an office renovation in the historic Guild House building, part of the Westminster Church complex owned by the University and site of the famous Edgar Allen Poe grave. The building complex comprises a working church and Poe graveyard site as well as office functions for university staff. This particular program took an underused space on the second floor of the existing historic Guild House and created a small office suite with six private offices, kitchenette and conference space. The tall windows allow for an abundance of natural light and create a bright space for workers.

Historic Baltimore City School Garners Awards
GVA was especially proud to join with the Baltimore City Public School System in celebrating the opening of the new Highlandtown Elementary/Middle School. The 75,000 s.f. project is a stellar renovation and addition that preserves the heritage of the original 1926 building. The project has won design awards from the Masonry Institute of Maryland and the Associated Builders and Contractors of Baltimore.

Construction Ongoing at Elkridge Elementary
GVA is working once again for Howard County Public Schools, on the expansion of Elkridge Elementary School, a $5.9 million project now under construction. The project adds classroom space for a growing student population and duplicates the appearance of existing portions of the school so that the addition fits seamlessly into the complex as a whole.

Health Club Portfolio Expands with Big Vanilla
Recreation buildings are an expanding project type for GVA. Work has been completed on two health club projects in Pasadena and Arnold, MD for Big Vanilla. In Pasadena GVA designed a full service facility with pool, racquetball, locker rooms and full fitness programs. In Arnold GVA designed an air structure for year-round use of an outdoor pool, and an indoor swimming facility with lap pool, therapy pool and locker rooms.

GVA Enters the Hospitality Arena
Marriott Corporation has contracted with GVA to review and format construction documents for compliance with in-house standards and implement best drawing practices. The current work is concentrated on the Fairfield Inn and Suites brand. GVA has also reviewed drawings for a number of Fairfield Inn and Suites nationwide.

Interior Design for High Tech Tenants Continues
Other recent interior projects include renovations to offices for IMRE Communications in Baltimore and Washington D.C. as well as First Annapolis Consulting. … Martek Biosciences Corporation continues to expand its office and laboratory facilities in Columbia and has approached GVA with future expansion plans. … ITT/EVI has come back to GVA for an expansion to its Columbia Gateway complex. COPT is the landlord for this project.

Sports Facility Slated for Fall ’09 Completion
Construction is ongoing at Western Regional Park and Meadowbrook Park for the Howard County Department of Recreation and Parks. In addition to the $2.6 million Indoor Sports Facility pictured, GVA also designed comfort stations and public pavilions for both parks. The Indoor Sports Facility is due to open Fall 2009.
